There were some quite unpleasant people who sailed on the Mayflower and foremost amongst them were Christopher Martin and John Billington's family.
Billington was a man with an enormous chip on his shoulder who and a persecution complex. He always thought he was short changed or got the raw end of a deal. He had arguments with another settler named John Newcomen who he shot in 1630.
Billington thought he would get away with the deed as he believed there was no authority to punish him and that the colony was desperate for settlers. He was wrong and he was subsequently hanged.
